Her work often reflects her working-class upbringing in the rust belt, where she was raised by a single father who was a laborer.
She has been translated into French, Czech, Chinese, and Vietnamese! Her work has been called “..the embodiment of what science fiction should be…” by The Oxford Culture Review.
Yes, her hair used to go to the ground. After lockdown she drastically cut it to knee length! If you have more questions about having long hair, see the Hair FAQ.
Marie is a computer programmer in Cleveland, Ohio. She is an organizer for the Cleveland Game Developers group and has participated in many game jams, mostly making interactive fiction.

She has an identical twin sister, Grace, who is an accomplished illustrator and a data analytics professional. (Check out our comics together!)
Marie met Brian Crick when they were both students at Case Western Reserve University. They were married in 2001 at his mother’s house in Vinh Long, Vietnam. They live in Cleveland Heights with his brother John, her niece Jennifer, and Koala the dog. Marie and Brian became Jennifer’s permanent guardians in 2021.
