Every year the Clarion Foundation hosts a write-a-thon to raise money to keep the Clarion workshop going. I attended Clarion in 2013 and it was a life-changing experience I’d like to help more people have.
Write-a-thon participants set their own goals for the six weeks of the Clarion workshop. (It started Monday!) I like to take this opportunity to push myself and my craft while raising money for a worthy cause.
In past write-a-thons, I’ve pledged to write fifty new short story drafts. It was fun and now my hard drive is just crammed full of short stories. So this year I’m going to do some much-needed house-cleaning! My goal this year is to get at least 12 of these dirty little rough drafts cleaned up enough to submit for publication.
Going from 50 to 12 sounds like a step down, but it isn’t. Really polishing a story takes a lot of time and thought. So far I’ve been working on two stories and haven’t finished either.
SO, that’s what I get out of this. What do you get out of it?
Last year’s sweater give-a-way was such a great success I’m doing it again.
