The write-a-thon ended on Sunday! I was at Confluence, a science fiction convention in Pittsburgh, at the time, and I promise to post a blog post about that lovely experience soon, but first and foremost, I made a pledge to knit a garment-of-choice for one lucky winner.
I had 14 donors this time, and I assigned a number to each and rolled a d-20 with my friends watching to keep me honest. If I rolled higher than 14, I would re-roll. As it turns out, I didn’t have to re-roll! (Yes, I realize in hindsight that I had assigned number 9 to “Anonymous” so let’s just be happy I didn’t roll a 9?)

My goal for the write-a-thon was to write 100,000 words on anything. I counted all fiction projects, poetry, blog posts, and, when I saw how much work it was, my comments on the short stories I critiqued at Alpha. (Yes, I need to write a blog post about Alpha too! I’ve been LIVING so much lately! I look forward to the long boring months I can fill with recalling it all.)
I only made it to 55,706, but I’m not sad about it. I knew it was an ambitious goal, and it did its job … it got me over the writer’s block I’d been having on Galactic Helcats 2: Hellcats in Love, which is now 70,000 words long and heading in to its final chapters! There’s a caper and an escape and a hook for the third book to get through, should be 1-3 chapters left.
Even better, I raised $360 for the Clarion Writers Workshop, to help under-privileged students attend. And you can still donate! The site will stay up a few more days.
