I have managed to blog almost every week for over a year now. I’m proud of the accomplishment, but I do feel somewhat burned out.

Was it worth it, writing the past fifty blog posts? In some ways. I have had people tell me in person that they like my blog two or three times. I can tell the engagement numbers have gone up.

What are those numbers? Well, I get about 60-80 hits per blog post. Twelve posts got over 100 hits, and one – The Money – got over 400 hits. It’s the only post to get more hits than regular website pages this past year. The second runner up is How to Write Fantasy by Starting With Tone which got 235 hits.

Assuming it’s not always the same people reading, I can guess that hundreds of people like my blog. Yet, I am going to be stepping it back.

I didn’t start this website to be a bloggist. I blogged to draw attention to my writing. I have to acknowledge that, well, time spent blogging is time not spent writing fiction, and that’s what I really want to do. When you add all the time I’m spending now promoting my fiction, something just has to give.

I’ll still be blogging, but rather than force myself to update every week, I’m just going to write posts when the mood strikes. It often does. Sometimes I have long-form thoughts that won’t fit in a bluesky or facebook post, and I must shout them into the network-void.

To reflect the reduced focus on blogging, I’ve pulled the blog off my homepage. You can still find it via a “blog” menu item, or via the “What’s New” interest area on the home page.

Disappointed? Jazzed? You can let me know via my new contact form.

Let’s see how this goes, shall we?
